Measuring 57.3 square miles, Burrillville is the largest town
in northern Rhode Island. Located in the northwest corner of the state, the town
borders Connecticut to the west and Massachusetts to the north. Until the 1950s,
the town was a thriving woolen textile community, using the town's rivers for power.
The textile industry has long left the community, but the mills led to the development
of the town's many small villages. Main Street in the village of Pascoag is a fine
example of a typical mill village that has remained virtually unchanged for 100
years. The area serves as an educational piece for visitors to the John H. Chafee
Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. With its many lakes, ponds and
rivers, the town offers anglers and campers many options for water recreational
activities. Spring Lake Beach - a town-operated facility - is considered one of
the most pristine lakes in Rhode Island.
Burrillville uses a Town Council/Town Manager form of government and routinely welcomes
new business and residents alike.
