Lincoln
The Town of Lincoln is a blend of rural area,
residential developments, old mill villages and new industrial parks. It
is 18.6 miles large and is served by Route 146, which connects Worcester
to Providence, and Interstate 295. Route 116, the primary east-west
corridor, has a mix of industrial and commercial properties, including
Lincoln Mall, the region's first indoor mall. North Central State
Airport, which services small planes, is located in the northwest area
of town in the heart of the industrial sector.
The former mill buildings from Lincoln's textile manufacturing past are
pulsating with new businesses that are finding the older buildings an
affordable location in which to work. The town also is home to the
Community College of Rhode Island and the state-run William M. Davies
Jr. Career and Technical High School. Lincoln Woods State Park, a large
wooded park perfect for hiking, contains Olney Pond, a popular swimming,
fishing and canoeing spot. The town also owns several hundred acres of
open space, including Chase Farm in the historic district.
Lincoln operates under a home rule charter and has an elected town
administrator and an elected town council.
