As the birthplace of the industrial revolution, the city of Pawtucket prides
itself as being one of the most historical significant cities in America. Slater
Mill, founded in 1791, now serves as an educational museum and a facility for cultural
events. Interstate 95 winds its way through the heart of Pawtucket, putting the
city in position just 10 minutes north of Providence and 50 minutes south of Boston.
Its location makes this city a perfect center business and the arts. In fact, the
city is expanding its Arts and Entertainment District by offering artist incentives
to relocate within the area. For baseball fans, the Pawtucket Red Sox, the minor
league team of the Boston Red Sox, offers professional baseball at family prices.
Major renovations continue to see a growth in office buildings and industry. Pawtucket
is home to several internationally known companies including Collette Vacations,
and Hasbro. Its industrial area is served by freight rail. In all, more than 1,000
commercial enterprises have all chosen to locate in Pawtucket because of its business-friendly
environment.
Pawtucket has an elected mayor and city council.
